Kona Katie's New Year's Resolution: Be Better to My Skin!

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to be better to my body.  First: my largest organ, my SKIN!  I already spray tan, so I'm going to find the perfect sunscreen for my super-sensitive complexion, and get regular facials with TLC.  Someone told me about a gentle sunscreen called Ocean Potion, which can be found at local surf shops.  Has anyone out there tried it?

Scars and the Sun

Ever wonder why scars and fine lines appear to look darker? We were suprised to learn how easily they can become permanently discolored!

- Damaged skin is susceptible to becoming permanently discolored by the sun (source: AskDrSears.com; Cuts, Scrapes and Stitches 2006 - http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t085600.asp)

- A risk factor for skin cancer is having scars on the skin that aren't protected by an SPF of 15 or higher (source: National Cancer Institute http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/skin)

- Once a scar gets burned or sun-tanned, it will not fade back to its normal color and a dark spot will always be present (source: http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/health/info/skin/home/wounds-scars.htm)

- A sunscreen of at least SPF 30 should be applied for the first year on newly-healed skin (source: http://firstaid.webmd.com/tc/burns-home-treatment?page=2)
